Life Planning Are you ready for a change but not sure what direction you want to take? Are you transitioning from work to home; from child-rearing to empty nester? Or, maybe you're just not sure what you want, but you know you long for some kind of change. If this sounds like you, then please join us for eight weeks of self-discovery and life planning. This is a very experiential class so be prepared for lots of discussion and in-class exercises. You will learn something about adult development in general and where you are in your own life; you'll clarify what's really important to you; identify your skill areas -- even discover some that were hidden; you'll look at how you allocate your time, make some decisions and set some goals. You will come away with a clearer sense of who you are and what you want at this point in your life. Please bring a notebook or journal. Understanding You and Your Relationships The Enneagram (any-a-gram) is a powerful and dynamic personality system that describes 9 distinct and fundamentally different patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Discovering your Enneagram personality type can help you learn how to bring positive changes into your life and your relationships. The Enneagram is being used today by individuals, groups, educators, therapists, teachers, and business consultants to improve communication and relationships and lessen misunderstandings. Harriet Porter, LCSW is certified to teach the Enneagram through Loyola University. Loving What Is: Join Harriet Porter, LCSW and apply the four questions posed by author Byron Katies book to marriage & family life, work & money, and self-judgments & underlying beliefs. |

Rituals of Life: Movies with Marti Join us the second Wednesday evening of the month for a movie around the theme, Rituals of Life. Marti Kuehn will lead the discussion, starting in September with the movie Dream Life of Angels followed in October by Monsoon Wedding. View the movie on your own, or come see it at the WEX at 5:00 p.m. Discussion starts at 7:00 p.m. Martis groups fill quickly, so register early to avoid disappointment. Finding Home Wherever You Are Moving whether from one country to another or simply from the city to the suburbs exposes you to a new environment, new people, new rules, and new customs. In many cases, family, friends, a career or other significant pieces of your identity have been left behind. Even after time has passed, home may seem far away. We will explore the changes that take place with relocation, why they can leave you feeling unsettled and how to help yourself and your family feel more at home wherever you are. Facilitators will be Candice A. Hughes, Ph.D., President, Bridging Cultures Inc, and Jane Raveret. Candice lived and worked abroad for 14 years as a member of an expatriate family. Jane, originally from this area, has also lived abroad and on the west coast. Beginning Yoga Calm, center, relax and energize yourself with Beginning Yoga. We will practice basic yoga poses, breathing techniques, and meditations that you can add to your daily life. This is a gentle introduction to yoga, suitable for every body. Leader Judy Luken-Johnson has practiced and studied yoga since 1990. She instructed yoga at Lakeside Yoga Center in Evanston. She will share the best of her studies with master yoga teachers with you. Note two sessions! WEX Facilitator Training Are great teachers born or made? The answer is both! If you know a subject well and care deeply about it, then why not teach it? Knowledge and enthusiasm are all you need! Maybe youve always wanted to lead a book discussion or facilitate a workshop in art history. In this class youll learn about how to teach adults, construct a course, write a syllabus, lecture and lead discussions. Who knows? You may be the next Womens Exchange leader! Gina Logan, Ph.D. has 30 years of experience teaching adults, including Life Planning at the Womens Exchange. Lunch Break Discussion: A short program for extra-busy women! For those who need to multi-task! Join us for a one-hour only brown-bag lunch discussion. Each week Kate Wallace Ph.D., author of several books on faith, imagination, and ethics, will do a five-minute summary of one chapter and then lead a discussion of The Tending Instinct, an exciting new book by award-winning neuroscientist and UCLA professor Shelly Turner. Turner explores and explains the ways in which females respond to stress with tend-and-befriend behaviors that have a dramatic impact upon blood pressure, immune function, and so forth. No need to purchase the book. |
