Stein was best known for her modernist writings, extensive art collection, and literary salon in 1920s Paris. For some 40 years, her home at 27 rue de Fleurus on the Left Bank was a gathering place for expatriate American artists and writers, and others in the vanguard of arts and letters, most notably Pablo Picasso.
